Drama-free Oral Surgery
One of my girls has had quite a time with her teeth; cavities, crooked teeth and basically teeth just all over the place where they shouldn't be. We began our journey with braces well over a year ago. Her teeth are on their way to looking just beautiful! At one of our last appointments with the Orthodontist they did some x-rays & found that she had no wisdom teeth. I was elated because they most normally must come out anyway. My enthusiasm was quickly replaced by the fact that her 12 year molars were completely turned. Not only would they not come in, they would also un-do all of the work that had been done so...they had to go! This child is; well...skittish. The mere mention of surgery put us both in a panic. She's the child that freaked at the smallest scratch and was constantly insistent on a bandaid. I spent a small fortune in bandaids through her childhood!
Seeing two of my older kids go through the removal of their wisdom teeth, I was a bit more concerned for this child. Since, we've had the surgery. Everything went smoothly and was better than expected. Post surgery, she's been awesome! We have no insane videos to share, she didn't act crazy or senseless, she wasn't lethargic. She did great! Naturally, they gave us a couple of prescriptions for pain; Lortab & a high dosage of Ibuprofen. My husband went promptly to fill these at the pharmacy. He wasn't willing to take any chances on her dealing with pain. When it came to our daughter, he wasn't willing to experiment with oils. I knew that I had the solution for her needs in our midst and with no concern of side effects.
Upon her arrival home we immediately began oiling her. I wanted to treat her for pain, keeping swelling at a minimum and heading off the possibility of any infection. Several times a day she rubbed on Panaway, Copaiba, Lavender and Thieves. We rubbed each of these on her jaw bones. We're at day 3 and she has done incredible. She's not had one pain pill and has very minimal swelling. We're completely drug free.
As she's just added some soft foods into her days she's also had to swish. The doctor called for swishing warm salty water. We've opted to swish water with Panaway & Thieves. She didn't like the taste of it but this blend will continue to keep pain away & assure no infection or dry sockets. It should also greatly improve her healing time.
Moving on from swishing to washing out those pits with her syringe, she continued to use a solution of water and Thieves. The entire process was so much better than either of the older kids. She had no swelling and no pain! We do completely give all credit to the steps we took with oiling her. Here's to no drugs and natural healing!
